Distribution and sales

Marketarea

The area of
FoodCenter is 26 hectares. In the early days products of the gardeners were traded over water. Now, the quays constructed for this purpose, have been muted. Thus additional land came available for distribution and direct sales. There are around 2200 people working in the approximately 90 established companies.

Traffic
The marketarea to the Jan van Galenstraat is easily accessible from the highway of
Amsterdam (Ring Amsterdam). The entrance to the Haarlemmerweg can also be used. Because of its location near the ring, the city center is not overly strained with traffic. A traffic circulation system on the FoodCenter provides for an optimal accessibility to the companies.

Assortment
The total range of the products sold by all companies on the FCA accumulates to over 50,000 products. Due to the changing demographics of the Dutch population there has been a higher demand for exotics. The indigenous population of Amsterdam increasingly discovered the foreign cuisine whose products were richly supplied through Schiphol airport. The well sorted, broad and contemporary range of products assures that the Food Center Amsterdam remains an attractive wholesaler to supermarkets, distribution centers and catering.

Submarkets
On the Food Center Amsterdam, the following markets are distinguished:

  POTATOES, VEGETABLES & FRUIT
  GENERAL FOOD
  SERVICES
  FISH
  MEAT, POULTRY & WILD

Distribution
The distribution of wholesaler to retailer gets more and more and faster ramifications. Informationtechnology herein is expected to become increasingly important.  Partnerships are aiming to bundle their orders to the client. This development will be intensified even further without compromising the function of the market. The customer is always welcome to spot his choice. A balanced and responsible transportsystem can help to reduce movements in and outside the market and establish a more efficient management and a cleaner environment.
